May 1, 2021 Community Solidarity Gathering Against Evictions of Seniors from Sakura Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, CA

*Fight for Equality in Healthcare* For fifty years, the facilities at 325 S. Boyle Ave. have served the Japanese American community, providing needed healthcare and housing for seniors to compensate for a racist, discriminatory healthcare system in the United States.

International real estate developer, Pacifica Companies is proposing to mass evict Japanese American and Japanese seniors, most of whom are in their 90's to 100's from their Boyle Heights home in order to convert the building into high-rent/market-rate housing. This proposal has already been rejected by the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council, but Pacifica continues to ignore community sentiment and has proceeded to continue efforts to coerce residents to leave the facility against their health interests.

There exists no other bilingual and bi-cultural care facility like the Sakura Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) elsewhere in the U.S. Evicting seniors during the pandemic is tantamount to a death sentence.
